Bentley Rear Axle Thrust Race - Re: .001" clearance between the thrust race faces. ------------------------- I am forwarding under separate cover a GB.2035 thrust race with a broken cage, the mileage is 15,190, for Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}'s attention. We have cured two rear axles by correcting the clearance between the faces of the race. In one case .0015 had to be lapped off to get the necessary clearance and .001 in the other. On a car received today, we had to reduce .003 to obtain the clearance. Thirteen thrust races taken out of stock were .001" to .0015" proud. If the axle thrust races have to be dealt with in this manner, Kingsbury will require a lapping machine, or surface grinder, as no one has a machine around here.
