CAR DYNAMOS.

We must make some progress with - and perhaps get a provisional patent for connecting the head lamps up via the series winding of the dynamo.

One feels that ordinary series winding is of no benefit but I still think that with skill and patience it would be good - i.e if we got the right combination with other features. As, however, one thinks we shall get still better results in series with the head lamps, it would not be worth spending any time upon this more ordinary scheme.

In putting the head lamps through the series we get earlier cutting in because it will help the excitation before the cutting in takes place, and also the current to the head lamps is nearly constant, (rising and falling much less than the charging current) and so should help with proportionately greater effect the higher the dynamo speed. Naturally if overdone it would increase the output too much but we can make the effect as feeble as we like down to one turn. I have not data at hand to enable me to make a suggestion as to the number of turns to try, but temporary wires can so easily be put on that experiments would be quicker than calculation and afterwards experiments.
