To Lov.{Mr Lovesey} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Copy to Dr. Helmore. 1235 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/ET.23.6.41. DOPED OILS. ----------- I do not know how you are progressing with doped oils, nor how their adoption in service is progressing. I know, however, that Helmore has some ideas on the subject and presume that you will have discussed them with him the other day. The question arises as to what portion of the engine at the present moment, can benefit from doped oils, other than the reduction gear. It occurs to me that a test could, with advantage be run on the best doped oil and a Merlin engine with the chromium plating deleted from the rockers. The ideal would be to have a separate lubrication system for the rockers, and to run half on ordinary oil and half on doped oil. Chromium plating rockers is an awkward process, and we should much like to be rid of it on the tank engine. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
