Initial tests were made to check that the water flow as far as could be determined by the distribution of pressure over the cylinder blocks was uniform. In addition to completely calibrating the cylinders for power, fuel consumption, detonation, and water flow, they were established for evaporatively cooling, a water displacement check made and the full schedule of flow tests for evaporatively cooled engines carried out. This last test covered the engine circulating pump tests for Kestrel 111 MS. 607 Type Test. An extract from the test schedule (A.I.D. schedule 26.10.32) concerning these tests is appended hereto. (B) KESTREL 111 MS.607. This engine was used for timing investigations and checks of full throttle power, detonation, and mag drop made at the alternative timings for M.S. engines i.e. 40° and 36° B.T.C. P.A. RESULTS OF TESTS. (A) KESTREL 11 S.27. (a) Cylinder Calibration. Power. - Curve 350 F.{Mr Friese} gives the full throttle powers of the engine when fitted with both DES.1613 and standard cylinders. There is little difference in power between the two types but the balance is in favour of the former. Fuel Consumption. - Curve 351 F.{Mr Friese} shows consumption loops at 2250 and 2500 R.P.M. full throttle. These loops take a similar form to standard and the maximum power and weakest maintained consumptions are appreciably the same as standard. Detonation. - Checks were made at the 'Take off' conditions of the standard S. Kestrel and also at the increased ratings for the same engine. Rating. RPM. BOOST. BHP. DET'N. S.
