Inquiry about successful non-rotating rectifiers for charging chassis batteries with a small alternating current.

Do you know of a successful rectifier for alternating current which does not require to rotate? for say 1 ampere There is for instance the Noden aluminium valve, or the Cooper-Hewitt mercury vapour valve. Do you know whether either of these are commercially successful for small currents such as for instance would be used for the trickling current which we recommend so strongly for keeping the battery in condition in London? There is also the thermionic valve as used in wireless apparatus. It occurs to us that there might be an adaptation of this suitable for rectifying small alternating currents.
