With reference to the three pairs of special springs of the American type, BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} has suggested that in view of the fact that the American made spring has come out so well on the bumping rig, we should get Firths to make new forged top plates for fitting to the pair of springs made to Mr. Stansfield's figures and those made as an exact copy of the American model, therefore will you please arrange for these to be sent into the Despatch Stores so that we can have them sent on to Firths for this purpose.

BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} also wishes Messrs. Firths to have a piece of each broken plate of all three types of springs, and that H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} should have a second set, so that a comparison of analyses and heat treatments can be made.

Will you please let us have the plates in question, which should be labelled to indicate which type of spring they belong to, and whether top plate or otherwise.
