Rear Brakes (Continued).

The above unit should be simplified for assembly purposes.

The brake linings and drums were in good condition, except that the N.S. were slightly grooved, and very little wear has occurred considering the mileage. The N.S. brakes had been adjusted 30 half-turns and the O.S. 33 half-turns. A small piece had been broken out of the inside fin and also the inside edge of the N.S. drum.

Both toggle shafts, actuating shafts and bearings were in good condition. The adjusting mechanism worked freely, although the cams were burred, and no undue wear was present in any of the parts.

Rear Hubs.

Hubs, complete as received, all hub bearings were in good condition, but both N.S. and the larger O.S. bearing inner races had been turning on the axle tubes.

During test in France, Hoff. No. 150 Ball Bearing, which replaces Hoff. No. R.150 Roller Bearing, failed on the off-side after 9,500 miles. This may be accounted for by there being no clearance behind the bearing, and consequently this bearing, which is the smaller, had to take all the thrust instead of the larger bearing.

This condition has now been catered for on 32.EX., which is going on 15,000 miles test, by shortening the distance piece .080 approx.

G.84977. Front Buffer Assembly to suit Lockheed Jacks.

The dural jack brackets were in good condition and showed no signs of cracks.

Radiator and Fittings LOP.E.87239.

E.88376, yoke assembly, in good condition.

Matrix unit and Ex.25120, steam outlet, in good condition, but the bottom of the matrix unit had silted up
