We have overcome the trouble of reverse gear working out under full load by fitting a shaft of twice the stiffness. Before doing this we tried a solid standard shaft (i.e. omitting the .750 dia. boring), but this 20% increase in stiffness was insufficient. For this test we used Whitemetal bushes with horizontal oil grooves opposite to the load. These bushes stood up to fifteen minutes full torque. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/H.Grylls.
