INDIA FRONT SPRINGS.

We send herewith N.sch.2074 shewing a revised method of making the front springs with a view to increasing the length of life.

It is understood that fractures generally occur immediately under the central sheath. Mr. Royce therefore wishes to increase the metal towards the centre of the spring, and take out a little towards the ends. The drawing illustrates how it is proposed that this should be done, namely, by putting one more plate into all of the existing springs, giving a short overhang between the bottom plate and the spring pad, and then gradually increasing the overhang towards the ends. A 650 lbs. spring is shewn. Would Derby set out the other two on the same lines? Though shewn flat for convenience it is of course intended that the springs shall have the camber in normal position, free deflection, etc.etc. exactly as at present used.
