To Bentley Motors Ltd. Derby................ Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Levallois Sr/VA9/ET.15.II.37 Re: CHASSIS B.25.KU - PARIS TRIALS CAR` Owing to low oil pressure, it was decided to remove the bottom half and check bearings for oil flow. During the oil flow test we observed that oil flowed abundantly from all the main bearings. To carry out the above test, we used a small oil pump and when it was being turned by hand at about 120 r.p.m., the oil gauge hand only just moved. We then removed the caps of the centre and one intermediate bearing and it was observed that the centre lower half A.C-2 bearing shell had "closed in" at the joint faces about .008" on either side, or .016" on diameter and the intermediate had "closed in" about .007" or .014" on diameter. The surface of the above two bearings are scored and have groove marks. The mileage of the car is 2147 Kms. We will let you have further information as soon as possible. Sr/VA.Vd. | ||
