Answering your AJS3/M24.12.26, I understand the main object of the suggestion is to enable similar brush holder parts to be used, thus resulting in saving. From a purely technical point of view there may be a very slight advantage in the narrower brushes in the efficiency of the motor, otherwise there is practically nothing in it. Therefore, it is a question as to whether the slight lengthening of the motor would cut out any saving gained by having the brushes the same.
