X2764 E.Dept. Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Mr. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} -------- BY7/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 25.8.25. -------- VALVES AND FITTINGS. 40/50 HP. ENGINE. -------- Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} has drawn attention to the fact that the Cup E.70313 containing Felt Washer E.70302, designed to prevent oil working down the valve stem, is acting as an oil reservoir due to the fact that the suction down the stem draws the oil up inside the cup. To prevent this action taking place, a 3/32 hole should be drilled half way between the top and bottom of the cup, through which suction of the engine would draw air instead of oil round the base of the cup. An alteration should be sent through at once for this, and all oil cups not fitted should be drilled; in addition, engines which are fitted should have a small hole drilled which can easily be done with the piece in position. The same should apply to the 20 HP. if the design is similar as I believe it is. E.Dept. will look into this matter for the 20 HP. and issue instructions if an alteration is necessary. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
