C.W.Ward, Esq. -2- 16th. February, 1940. In discussing the matter with Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} I have emphasised that the most important thing necessary to achieve this figure is that 500 sets of parts should be ordered at one time, and that a steady flow of 10 chassis per week should go through the shop and that nothing should be allowed to interfere with such a programme. I am sure that educating London to this state of affairs is going to be our biggest difficulty, but I am determined that we are going to prevent a return to the pre-War condition where anybody could stop and start a body line at will. I have mentioned to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} your difficulties over staff and when we get your recommendations we shall discuss them with him. I should like to take this opportunity of saying how much I appreciate what you have already done by getting a reduction of 40% in the pre-War price of the B.II body. We are having to take our fences one at a time with the chassis cost reduction, and it is inevitable that the same procedure should be adopted with regard to the body. The price you have given us represents the first step. The fact that we are eager to go for the next objective does not mean that we are not appreciative of what has already been done. Yours sincerely, | ||
