OyS-W-22723 -2- No special provision is made for getting oil to the surfaces beyond the slightly greater slack mentioned above. It is our opinion that when the clutch stops a little oil falls down the tapered flywheel face on to the inner end of the spigot, and when starting and stopping, the splash of oil inside the clutch also lubricates the parts. We do know that the small withdrawing recess at the back of the ball thrust washer in the flywheel always contains oil on dismantling, and it appears that overflow from here gets on to the clutch spigot. Perhaps it may be well to mention here that some of the clutch overoiling both on Springfield and Derby cars has been traced to the spigot working minutely loose in the crankshaft. This has not occurred since we reverted to the old Derby practice of warming the crank end before driving in the spigot. Oy. | ||
