COPY. EFC. WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}51. 26th Oct. 1925. DELCO-REMY DISTRIBUTOR (MODEL 5249) This distributor which is fairly representative of American design has many interesting features. The general finish is good and all the parts are fairly robust in construction. Features of interest are set out as follows :- (a) Contact Breaker Cam. This is a six point cam with the lobes soft instead of hard as in the R.R. The cam is easily removed, not being fixed on a tapered shaft, but pushed on to a split tube which is forced into a tight tukexwhxkxk fit by the action of screwing up a taper shank screw. (b) Rubbing Block. This is made of bakelite of a thin section at rubbing point. (c) Contact Breaker Points. These are, from appearance and tests for hardness, presumably tungsten. They are about 10% larger in diameter than the R.R. Standard, the screw point being made slightly convex to ensure central bedding on that point. (d) Distributor Head. This is of the wipe pattern, a steel spring brush fixed to an insulated moulded rotor, making contact horizontally with six steel inserts in the head. The material in which the steel segments are inserted is apparently a rubber moulding similar to stabalite, whilst the rest of the distributor head is a synthetic moulding; this being for the purpose of preventing H.T. tracking. (e) Condenser. The condenser made cylindrical shape is neatly housed inside the distributor. Its capacity at 15°C is .227 microfarads. Contd. | ||
