86004 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.J/MA. May 30th., 1933. Messrs. S.Smith & Sons Ltd., Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2. Revolution Indicators for Bentley Chassis. Dear Sirs, We have been checking over the rev counters that you have recently supplied to us in connection with our Bentley chassis and we regret to note that in some cases there is an error on the slow side. As you no doubt realize these rev counters must be particularly accurate and if there is any unavoidable error this error must certainly be positive and not negative i.e. it is more preferable for the rev counters to be rather on the fast side than on the slow. One we recently checked was found to have a maximum variation between 16°C. and 30°C. of 2% and at the latter temperature we got a maximum error of 1% slow. This occurred at 1500 R.P.M. reading from 1500 R.P.M. up to 5,000 R.P.M., error first of all was 3% slow which gradually increased to 5% slow at 5,000 R.P.M. We wish to impress upon you the necessity for absolute accuracy with these rev counters and at the earliest opportunity we shall return the faulty rev counter to you for correction. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
