RR 753A (10H) (421008) 19/10/37 C.B.Co. COMPLETED 22.11.38. 25/30 H.P. STANDARDISATION OF PARTS Description: RADIATOR TOP TANK WITH BAFFLE TO EW.1170 OMITTED & INLET NOZZLE MODIFIED TO EW.1862. Purpose: (1) Omission of baffle - to save cost. (2) Modified nozzle - to cure water loss. Brief Report and Remarks: Above scheme has been fitted up on two experimental cars, 28.G.VI and 26.G.VI. Tested on 28.G.VI over 150 miles of the most violent possible driving, no water was lost. 850 miles and 400 miles have been covered in 28.G.VI. and 26.G.VI. cars respectively without appreciable loss of water which maintains a level at the lower lip of the filler cap washer seating, where it is easily visible hot or cold. A check-up on cooling indicates that the scheme has no effect on same. When recommended for Introduction: Immediately on A series nozzles past to be mod. Decrease in Cost: £0.3.10. a/Nb. 30.9.38. Production Position and Comments: Cost of Tools £ NIL. Modifications to radiator top tank, were introduced at the 29th. chassis in 'A' series and provide a saving in factory cost of 3/10d. per chassis. To avoid scrap 67 inlet nozzles EW.1663 already in stock were converted to the new type EW.1862 at a conversion cost of £6.14.0d. There was no tool cost involved but 78 surplus baffles EW.1170 value £1.19.6d. were rendered scrap. Total scrap and conversion cost of £8.46d. will be recovered after producing 43 chassis i.e. at the 68th. chassis in 'A' series. BRG. Authorisation to Proceed. Introduce on the 29 Chassis in A Series. Signature Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} [Signature] Date 22.11.38. Signature Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [Signature] Date 22.11.38. Date Issued: 31.8.38.
