BENTLEY STANDARDISATION OF PARTS COMPLETED 24.11.38. Description: LUCAS MELLOTONE HORN. Purpose: The existing H.F. horns are outside the limits recommended by the S.M.M.T. with respect to volume of sound. The Mellotone are approx. correct. Brief Report and Remarks: A fair percentage have already been fitted to Bentley cars at the customers request. Raymond Mays had a pair of Mellotone fitted to B.144.LS in Nov. 1937. No complaints to date. Lucas's will take back existing stock of H.F. horns thus no scrap will be incurred in the change over. A choice of loud or soft tone may be obtained by the fitting of a simple switch on the instrument board. When recommended for Introduction: 61 in 'M' series. Report References: By.{R.W. Production Position and Comments: Lucas Mellotone Horns to conform to S.M.M.T. limits regarding sound volume can be introduced at the 61st. chassis in 'M' series by scrapping existing horn brackets etc. value £19. There will be no Horns scrapped since Lucas have agreed to take back existing stock of H.F. horns. Introduction of Mellotone horns will involve a tool cost of £29.0.0d. and there will be an increase in factory cost of 16/7d. per chassis. Authorisation to Proceed.
