Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 23rd instant. From further enquiries we have caused to be made of our Works Manager who inspected this instrument when it came to us, we must adhere to the view we expressed in our former letter.

A quantity of thick oil was found in the base of the instrument, surrounding the worm and other parts and this was apparently not observed by the person who cleaned out the instrument in the first place at your end.

The fact that this was not cleaned out on the first occasion was the cause of further condensation appearing when the instrument was again run.

In our view the alteration suggested by you regarding the rubber packing would not make any difference and it was a mere coincidence that when the rubber washer was replaced with the joint at the bottom of the instrument, no further water trouble was experienced.

We trust, therefore, that you will be now able to pass our invoice.

Yours faithfully,
For A.T. SPEEDOMETER CO.LD.

(Sgd) J.W. Pollard.
