Tail Lamps for Continental use.

Replying to your memo C.3/C/5.12.33, what we have on the MN. chassis I understand as regards provision for tail lamps is as follows:

There are two Lucas single pole adaptors on the offside of the chassis, and the Butler stop and tail lamp is wired up with two short conductors to these adaptors, the earthing for the lamp being provided by the mounting of the lamp itself on the rear crossmember.

When an owner desires to travel abroad the arrangement is that he should carry two long conductors complete with adaptors so that what he has to do is to transfer the lamp to a bracket on the nearside of the car, which bracket he has to provide or specially have fitted and couple it up with the two aforementioned long conductors. Should he desire, instead of doing this, to fit an extra small tail lamp on the nearside there is really no provision for this light, but he would have to break in on the present conductor to the offside lamp, which would be after all only a bodge when it is done, and even then should be done by an electrician really.

Before the advent of stop lights the MN. chassis was provided with a single adaptor on each side of the chassis so that it was not then necessary for the customer to carry a special long conductor for coupling up.

We think from the customers point of view it would be preferable to fit the chassis with adaptors on each side, but it would now be necessary for these to be two in number, to provide for both the stop light and the tail lamp, and this would be approximately 7/6d extra on the cost of the chassis, 5/- of which is represented by the cost of the extra adaptors.

In the case of the Lucas stop and tail lamp which is being developed for Bentley we have arranged that the two
