X4573 To Bey/SH from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c.c. Sgr. for. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} H-Y. K.6/HP.6.3.33. Re Axle and Damper Mountings on Bensport. Confirming telephone conversation of this afternoon with you and replying to memo KV.3/3.33, it will not be necessary for you to make any modification with regard to axle clearances as we believe the foul experienced by Hancock is due to a combination of wind-up and full bump on the Peregrine chassis. This agrees with your experience in connection with the extra clearance required for the rear universal joint above that theoretically necessary on full bump. It is understood then that we adhere to our ½" of compressed rubber for the axle but allow for rotational displacement in both directions due to braking or driving torque. With regard to the blueprint LeC.3387, we note that you are unable to cut away the cushion and that you are now asking for rather more room than was allowed originally. We see, however, no objection to the suggested modification to the shape of the shock damper brackets and these will be instructed accordingly. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
