To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Bensport. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}8/E22.2.33

Referring to the question of tyres, you will remember that I said some time ago that I should like to try one or two different makes on the experimental cars and keep away from Dunlops.

You are trying Goodyear's on the first car and I should like to try India tyres on the next car.

I had one of their Directors come to see me some few weeks ago and he told me that they were making up a new silent tyre which they hoped to have ready very shortly.

He recently wrote and said that they proposed to send us a set of their India Super Nonskid Tyres and I told them that, if as I understood these were not the silent ones, I thought they would be ill-advised to arrange for us to test a set of tyres other than the silent ones as, if they were noisy, it would probably prejudice the possible use of India tyres, expecially in view of the fact that we were at present testing tyres of another make which appeared to be very good in this respect.

They now say that they hope to beable tosend in the course of the next three weeks a set of the new type silent tyre of the following dimensions:-

5.50 x 18:
Cross Section Dimension - 5.835"
Outside Diameter . . 30.281"
Effective Radius . . 14.187"

Would you please let me know when you expect to want another set, and also whether you agree that it would be inadvisable to have the other set of tyres, i.e. the non-silent ones for the reeasons mentioned above.

Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}
