VISIT TO BRITISH BELTING & ASBESTOS COMPANY. In reply to MX.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}7/T.11.3.32., re the glazing of the cotton duck friction surfaces. I have visited the above company with a view of obtaining the reason of the glazing. Mr. T. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Crowther explained to me that they had no definite explanation to give and they could only surmise that the cotton material used in the last batch of weaving had absorbed more dope than usual. They agreed that this would cause the trouble that is being experienced by Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} In order to avoid the trouble infuture a thinner dope will be used which when dried off will leave less solid dope in the material. A set of these discs will be put through and sent for us to try and if we say they are OK our stock of servo discs are to be sent back and they will replace them free of charge. A further set of discs will be sent treated by the W treatment for us to try. Mr. Crowther said that the W treatment would give more consistant results. The dope used is Tung Oil, in the W treatment.
