The biggest feature in silencing them is blocking up the drain holes from beneath the diaphragm. The idea of the drain hole was to carry petrolaway that might leak past the diaphragm. S.U's. now say that they have never experienced such a leak, and if there is a leak there is no chance of the petrol catching on fire. It will only pit the points. We should therefore like you to run with these holes blocked up, and let us know to what degree of silence you obtain.

You are already familiar with the facts that the pumps will make a noise unless the petrol tap is airtight. We should be in a better position now that we have a two-way tap only. You will recollect that on the original car there was insufficient baffling in the rear tank, the consequence being that for the last seven gallons, the suction pipe was continually drawing air, the consequence being the pumps were noisy. To deal with this we are putting a tube standing up on the floor of the tank which should prevent petrol running away from the suction pipes when cornering. You have this on your car and we should like to know whether it is effective or not.

Water Temperature.

We note that your water temperature is as high as 86.45°C. Can you tell us more about this? Do you consider that the car is sufficiently well cooled for ordinary work?. Is the thermostat anything to do with the high water temperature?.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}

P.S.
We also note your high oil temperatures. If you could send us a copy of your chart showing your hour to hour oil and water temperatures, this would give us a better idea of what is actually happening. You will of course state whether the car was being driven on 3rd speed for vapour lock work.
