DERBY.
Dear Sirs,
40/50 ROLLS-ROYCE CHASSIS 47-KR.
Regarding the above Car which I took away from your works on the 1st inst.,
CLUTCH. This is now perfectly all right.
GEAR BOX. I assume that this is a normal one, but I find considerable difficulty in manipulating it especially after the easy and silent change on the Twenty. My driver remarks that it is very different from that fitted on the Silver Ghost model, the Gears of which could be put in with a thumb and finger on the lever.
ENGINE. I have run the Car 650 miles since the 1st June and on taking out three Sparking Plugs yesterday I found them getting very dirty, and evidence of a lot of oil in the upper part of the Cylinders. It seems to me a pity that you were apparently unable to make a proper job of this trouble when the Car was at Derby. I have to do about 900 miles this coming weekend and am rather apprehensive of mis-firing owing to oily plugs. When starting off on Monday last, with a warmed-up engine, the Car was missing badly on battery ignition only.
Yours faithfully,
[Signature]
