I have received a report from Holgate that he has noticed on many customers cars coming to Barkers, after they have been on the road only a short while, the rear lubricator of the front spring gaiter is damaged as if it had been bumping up against the chassis. This does not at first sight appear possible, but it may be that, under certain circumstances, when the car is braked, the rear protion of the spring is given a considerable reverse bend and if this happens at a time when it is considerably deflected it may just touch. It would appear desirable to provide more clearance here in any case, which could, I think, best be done by fitting a right angled lubricator at this point, but it would also be desirable to find out a little more about the actual deflection at this point. Can you devise some test that will be likely to give us the necessary information? CWB. | ||
