20 HP. STEERING ON 'BUMP' TEST.

We have carried out some bumping tests on the new type 20 HP. steering - F.53935 - having the outside pendulum lever and the new front axle. Only 33 minutes running was obtained before the 'bottom support bracket' failed at the holding down flange. This bracket was constructed of brazing metal which was the material instructed for this experiment.

The top part of the [struck through text] bracket was torn completely away from the flange leaving the holding down lugs on the flange attached to the steering box. The pieces shewed signs of considerable distortion, apparently before failure, as indicated in the sketch below :-
