Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 560 FILE IN SG{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'S CAR FILE - 18.1.37 Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s 30 HP Car GLG-5. This car arrived back in Derby on monday, Jan the 4th at. 2.0 pm. We had condemned the timing gears as being unpassible for sing and rattle previous to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} having the car for the Christmas holidays. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} now complained of spitting, in the air silencer, and back firing when switching the ignition off. The former trouble was cured by strengthening, the mixture at the low speed jet. Grylls and myself tried the car when it arrived in Derby and we were able to reproduce the back firing quite easily if the engine was left running fast when switching the ignition off, but not when switching off normally with the engine throttled back to tick-over speed. The car was sent into the Repair Dept for the engine gears on Monday at 5.0 pm., we received the car back again in the experimental on Wednesday the 6th at noon | ||
