TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. BJ. PN.{Mr Northey} S E C R E T. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. x9310 x9320 x9360 x9940 RE. BRAKES & GEARBOXES. We have decided that we shall retain double brakes on the back axles on all chassis, leaving no doubt about our system complying with the police regulations. We must stop work on the Goshawk side lever gearbox until we make a suitable box fitted with a "Servo" for four wheel brakes. This new box will be for side levers and will be exactly like the modified EAC. box which we are now redesigning. We are adopting the semi-"servo" system for both chassis because we are assuming that the 20.HP. will be a favourite with ladies, who would not otherwise have sufficient power over the brakes.
