RE WATER TEMPERATURE REGULATOR. 40/50 H.P. CHASSIS. X.3563

We send you herewith drawing No. LeC.1142. This drawing is a paper tracing from scheme LeC.1143 and gives you most of the information from the latter, shewing how it is intended to apply thermostatic regulation by means of a byepass to the 40/50 H.P. chassis.

It is thought that the 2" diameter thermostat will do all that we require. We have scaled a number of units of this size on the prints which you kindly sent us, and they seem to be 1.750" long. We have accordingly schemed in a unit of this length.

The side elevation on the drawing shews the bellows tube contracted to a length of 1.575". The end elevation shews it expanded to a length of 1.925". The length of the thermostat with the metal of the bellows tube in its normal unstressed condition will be 1.750". This is half stroke, and is intended to correspond to a temperature of 75°C.

The byepass need only be of small size, as it does not matter if the circulation is curtailed when the byepass is in use. It is not convenient to carry round a large byepass pipe which is not required.

During average running the byepass only has a small current of water in it. On the other hand the main water circulation conduit must be adequate for water and steam.
