With reference to E.2/HP.28.9.35, whilst we are anxious to urge any experiments to reduce the cost of the SpectreCodename for Phantom III, we do not think that we can get a crankshaft to LeC.4597 on the next SpectreCodename for Phantom III going to France. This design is of course not yet detailed, but as far as we can see it means an alteration to the crankshaft dies. If we altered the dies and then found that we ran into trouble due to the reduced balance, it would mean that either new dies would have to be sunk which might delay production, or that the additional material would have to be machined off the modified forgings. We have so many modifications going through at present that we consider it would be better for this crank to follow on when the first series of SpectreCodename for Phantom IIIs have been manufactured. If this was done, the crank could be manufactured from the solid without upsetting the dies. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} | ||
