RADIATOR SHUTTERS & CONTROLS LOP. E.54977.- No trouble has been experienced with the shutter controls. It has been necessary on several occasions to clean out from behind the shutters, small stones etc. which prevented the operation of the shutters. Otherwise they have operated quite satisfactorily.

BONNET LOP. E.54978.- No trouble has been experienced with the bonnet. No undue wear has taken place. No trouble has been experienced with the fasteners.

GEAR BOX & ACTUATING GEAR LOP. G.53463.- A slight period from on the overrun has developed from the side shaft gear in the gear box at approx. 54 M.P.H. Otherwise the gear box has remained in good condition and gears are quite passable. Slight oil leaks have occured from selector shaft cover and from the inspection covers. One pint of oil has been added to the gear box during the 9.000 miles test.

SERVO MOTOR MECHANISM LOP. G.52188.- The servo has given entire satisfaction. It has been necessary to readjust the balance arm to prevent thump of front brakes. The control rod from servo to equalising shaft hits the cross member when servo releases same after operation. More clearance is needed to prevent this which makes an objectionable noise.

FRONT SPRINGS & FITTINGS LOP. F.55538 MOD. TO E50 ASSY. FIRTH SILICO MANGANESE STEEL CADMIUM PLATED.- Outside examination of the springs at 5.000 & 9.000 miles found them to be in very good condition. The lubrication appears to be ample. Before test N/S 1.625" O/S 1.662". At 5.000 miles these remained the same. At 9.000 miles: N/S 1.437" O/S 1.5", showing that no permanent set has taken place in the spring leaves. Spring clips have remained firm. No undue wear has been observed in the spring shackles.

FRONT AXLE & BRAKES LOP. G.53662.- The axle is O.K. No wear can be detected in the pivots. N/S brakes and brake drums are in very good condition. One notch adjustment has been necessary during the mileage. O/S brakes became covered with grease, the grease being flung from the housing of the hub. Apparently the felt washer has given way allowing the grease from the hub to escape. The drum has become scored. Also there has been a slight oil leak from bottom cover of pivot allowing oil to run on the drum. The grease on the brake accounted for the pulling to the n/s when brakes were applied during a portion of the test. The cross and side steering levers G.53682 have remained quite O.K. The n/s front brake rope by hitting the starter motor shield created a noise which was objectionable. A sleeve or leather fitted on the rope obliverated the noise. No objectionable squeaks have developed.
