Further to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}2/MH.{M. Huckerby}14.6.38. NO.30 BED. B.III. NO.1. (a) bed. (1) Test and pass off when O.K. "mock up" of latest induction system for B.III No.5. (2) Fit Torsional Indicator shaft in crankshaft and check crank oscillations up to 4300 r.p.m. Damper should be standard poundage 12 - 15 lbs. at 1 1/2" radius. Large harmonic type of damper which fitters are now preparing, to be fitted and crank oscillations again checked. Packham is familiar with the Indicator. (3) Check power at say 3750 r.p.m. and 4000 r.p.m. (a) No water pump or thermostat. (b) Std. pump, no thermostat. (c) Std. pump with thermostat. (d) Large Vauxhall type pump with thermostat. WRAITH III NO.4 UNIT (b bed). Run 20 hrs. endurance for Attwater's camwheel. Each hour 30 mins. at 4000 rpm. 30 mins at 4250 rpm. Each 10 hours - 7 hrs. - full throttle. 2 hrs. - half " 1 hr. - quarter " Keep check on valve clearance alteration as special valves are fitted.
