RADIATOR SHUTTERS. V32499

With reference to your Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}4/W19.11.25. We consider it rather impolitic to condemn Paddon Bros. and Barkers radiator shutters because they are controlled by bowden cable. The reason for this is that all our 20 HP. radiator shutters are manipulated in this manner.

While we agree that shutters can cause trouble if they do not open properly, we should like to point out that it is quite unnecessary for the panels to turn through 90° in most cases. Our own shutters are fully open at 70°.

As you will see by the attached report (Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/LG 8.7.25) even this is excessive under certain circumstances. (see para. 'd')

Our shutters on the New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I have a frame round them. This definitely causes a slight obstruction. Therefore any shutters which have the section of the frame reduced are likely to have an advantage over our own. We believe the Paddon shutters have no frame.

We attach a copy of our Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/LG14.5.25. and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/LG9.4.25. This indicates the root of the trouble.
