| EXAMINATION OF THE ELECTRICAL UNITS REMOVED FROM THE BENTLEY CHASSIS B-56-BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} AFTER 18,600 MILES RUNNING. DYNAMO. There was a high resistance breakdown of the insulation due to accumulation of brush dust. This was sufficient to cause a flash over on 200 volts A.C. Apart from the positive brush sticking in its holder, (from what appeared to be salt-water corrosion) the brush gear was alright. Brush wear was reasonable. The Commutator was a little blackened, and only slightly worn. The surface was marked as though it had been jagged with a sharp edge. The rubber buffers on the drive were in very good condition, the amount of wear on them being negligible. STARTER MOTOR. This unit had travelled a total of 19,918 miles. The EL.267 Pinion bush fitted was found to be in very good condition. Its behaviour has been quite satisfactory. It was found that the brush flexibles, had been chafing against the end cover to such an extent, as to wear away the spiral insulation. In the case of one of the negative brushes the insulation had worn right through. | ||
