Gearbox.
We are interested in the effect obtained in reduction of gearbox noise by using the isolation scheme. At the same time we think there is still something to be done in making the mounting of the gearbox more flexible. We have instructed a set of gears with coarse pitch 45° helix, and with the Cadillac tooth correction. There is also a gearbox fitted throughout with ball bearings in place of roller bearings.

Steering.
With regard to the SpectreCodename for Phantom III Marles steering, I feel that we ought to start now looking into the question of making these worms ourselves and grinding them with a wheel of the same diameter and shape as the lever arm roller, possibly pneumatically driven.

Engine Mounting.
There are two schemes of engine mounting on experimental SpectreCodename for Phantom IIIs, and we should like to have some report as to when any difference has been observed between these two types, both in respect to the behaviour of the power unit and the effect on the front end of the chassis frame. Personally I am of the opinion that we have to use a friction or hydraulic damper to steady the engine torsionally.

Slow Running Carburation.
We have the design well in hand for using two single downdraught carburetters, one for each bank, with automatic valves controlling the flow of exhaust heat from the centre pair of cylinders. We are anxious to know if the flow from two cylinders for maintaining a balance tick-over will give sufficient jacket temperature, as per our memo.

Tappet Wear.
We should like to know if the set of roller tappets has been run yet, and with what result. Also if any better results have been obtained with the plain large radius
