Rolls Royce, Limited., DERBY. 29th April 1937 Dear Mr. West, At long last I am returning to you the Patent Specification and papers in the name of Gertrude Elizabeth Jukes. I have been unable to find anything quite like it in our patent records so I suppose there is some novelty involved, but it seems to me that the whole thing is a very complicated analysis of what after all is a very simple matter. Of course it should be possible to 'see further in fog if that extra distance is obtained by projecting an air tight tube into the fog always supposing that no fog forms in the tube at the same time, but unless the apparatus was extremely bulky the field of view would in my opinion be too limited to be of any use whatever. The idea is very similar to the one where you hang a fishing rod on the front of the car with a lighted bulb on the end of it. When the bulb goes out you know you are about to hit something and it is time to pull up!! As you know we are always glad to see anything novel and I appreciate your kindness in sending this on to me but I do not think we have anything here which is worth serious attention. Yours faithfully, JOSEPH LUCAS LIMITED. [Signature] | ||
