EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.

Exptl. No. 3409

REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/BB1/LGS.12.23.

Shoe X. Ferodo at toggle end only.

On applying the brake in this case it was noticed that this portion of the shoe had a rolling action. Consequently the braking was affected by a narrow band of the lining only as shewn below :-

light pressure on.

brake hard on.

Note :- This effect produced by mechanism and not by wrapping.

Shoe X. Ferodo on both segments.

We have run an 8 1/2 hrs. endurance test on this shoe.

Load on axle tube lever 9 to 10 lbs.

Average brake drum revs. under load - 236 - 395.

It was found necessary to ease the load at intervals. After 4 hrs. running, brake squeaked badly and the engine had to be speeded up to maintain the average drum revs.

Wear on shoe satisfactorily even but slightly in excess at centre of shoe.
