In spite of the fact that we have insisted on at least ¾" movement of the rear brake levers to overcome the trouble which we were experiencing with the above, we still continue to have occasional brakes seizing up. This has happened recently on new cars in customers' hands, and the evidence is that the brakes have been used rather excessively, high speed work etc. It certainly seems necessary that something should be done as quickly as possible to deal with this feature before it becomes a panic. We should also be in a position to deal with such customers' cars as are having this trouble or are likely to have it. The evidence we have shows that the trouble is due to insufficient clearance between the shoes and the brake drums, in spite of us making sure that when the car is turned out the clearance specified has been obtained. We are rather loath to increase this clearance, as the next complaint will be that the brake pedal is too soon on the floor boards. "Thumping" is also prevalent with these brakes, also inclined to grab and are not progressive in their effectiveness. 1894. a bad sample. [handwritten] EP.{G.
