NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I.

Road performance tests as carried out by the Production
Test Dept. (Chassis weight 47 cwts.)

(1) STANTON HILL. (Far end of Swarkestone Bridge).

Start at 10 m.p.h. full throttle level with telegraph
post at the corner - speed should increase to 30 m.p.h.
at the fourth telegraph post (of left).

(2) 1st. TICKNALL HILL. (This is the hill encountered
immediately after turning off the Melbourne Rd. for
Ticknall).

Start at direction post on corner at 20 m.p.h. full
throttle. At the third gate on left speed should
increase to 40 m.p.h. From this gate to the next
large tree on the left the speed should increase
another 10 m.p.h. i.e. to 50 m.p.h.

(3) 2nd. TICKNALL HILL. (This is the next hill encountered
after the 1st. Ticknall Hill (above)).

Test starts at 10 m.p.h. full throttle level with the
last post of the white railings on the right, speed
should increase to 30 m.p.h. at next gate on right.
Test finishes at 60 m.p.h. level with the gate on right
70 yds. before a large tree (on left)on the bend before
dropping down into Ticknall. This test is timed, the
maximum time allowable for the test being 1 min. 6 secs.

(4) 3rd. TICKNALL HILL. (This is the short sharp hill out
of Ticknall when proceeding in the direction of Derby).

Test starts at 10 m.p.h. full throttle at the last corner
of the last building on the left; speed should increase
to 37 m.p.h. at large tree on the right nearly at the
top of the hill. Time allowed 43 secs.

(5) PISTERN HILL.

Test starts at dip in road (where old railway crossing
used to be), at 10 m.p.h. Speed at danger triangle on
left to reach 30 m.p.h. Minimum speed on hill (past
triangle) 23 - 24 m.p.h. Test finishes at danger tri-
angle at top of hill, the time for test being 1 min.
6 secs. If a car does not reach 30 m.p.h. at first
triangle or exceeds 1 min. 9secs. for the test, it is
turned down.
