NOTTINGHAM.

Dear Mr. Voce,

I now hear from the English Steel Corporation, who are producing an experimental sample of 50 barrels for us, that they will deliver the first barrels to the Royal Ordnance Factory, Nottingham on August 12th.

We had hoped for earlier delivery but this is the best they can do.

Since I understood from our conversation yesterday that you might possibly have left Nottingham by this date, I would be very grateful if you could let me know that arrangements have been made for these barrels to go through in your absence. Also that it may be possible for us to send three operators over to Nottingham when these barrels have arrived, to learn to operate the boring, reamering and rifling equipment.

I heard casually today that there is an armament factory at Leeds which apparently, at the moment, has some spare barrel-making capacity. In view of the considerable production order which we now have for 40 m/m barrels, I am interested to know whether you have any knowledge as to the possibility of us getting any work done at Leeds. If so, could you tell me with whom to contact.

Yours sincerely,
