Manchester.

Attention of Mr. Richard Taylor :

Dear Sir,

You may recollect that during the visit to your works which the writer made some three weeks ago with our Mr. W.A. Robotham, I mentioned the fact that we were interested in the supply of 9" dia. turned bars in specification S.70 and I suggested you might discuss this with Mr. H.H. Burton of The English Steel Corporation Limited.

I now find that in addition to ourselves, our friends Messrs. Rotol Limited, of Cheltenham, are also interested in the supply of 9" turned bars, but in steel to specification S.89.

I feel that you could be of material assistance to us in this matter since you have steel making capacity and you could forge ingots down under your large press.

Similarly, from what I saw of your machining, turning of 9" bars should not present any difficulties.

We are now in need of an alternative source of supply for the steels mentioned and shall be glad to learn if the proposition is of interest to you.

Your early reply will oblige.

Yours faithfully,
For Rolls-Royce Limited,

Chief Technical Production Engineer,
(Aero Division).
