ORIGINAL SECRET. R2/M2.9.24. ~~ FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to - HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. re. WATER BOILING. X9250 X766 X8250 This matter was discussed during the visit of RG.{Mr Rowledge} and HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to WW. You will see my memo. on the subject dated 29/8/24. You will see that it is practically impossible within reason to prevent the water boiling, providing the conditions are against us, namely, that the air temperature is high and the engine is running at low speed full throttle. The E.A.C. engine will be more favourable because it will not heat so much water owing to the better shape of the combustion chamber due to the overhead valves. We are putting on the practical maximum size of radiator that conditions will allow. This has been increased due to the increased height of the radiator and bonnet. We are hoping to get the hot air away easier, but to get it as efficiently done as possible, it will be necessary to have louvred or shuttered bonnets. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
