H2/EM271015 (Cont.) re Steering Wobbles (1886 - Sykes) -2-

Pivot lean o/s .050, n/s .150

The following is a list of operations
carried out step by step:-

1st Operation. Side play in front spring shackles taken up.
Result. No improvement. Oscillations appear to be more pronounced.

2nd Operation Pivot lean corrected to .125
Result. No improvement.

2nd test with standard 895 x 135 tyres.
Result Wobble still manifest but not so heavy.

3rd Operation Cross steering tube re-adjusted and new ball pins fitted.
Result No improvement with either size tyres.

4th Operation "H" series steering tube fitted (sent from "W" to fit to chassis No. 2015E owner W.Whiteley for steering wobble)
Result. There is a tendency for wobble to develop, but it can be definitely produced, and then stops immediately steering wheel is released

2nd test with standard 895 x 135 tyres, pivot lean .125.
Result. Steering perfectly satisfactory at high and low speeds.

5th Operation. Pivot lean increased to .175 (still with "H" series tube)
Result Wobble again bad and slightest resistance to steering wheel develops it

2nd test with standard 895 x 135 tyres at same pivot lean
Result. Wobble does not develop and is hard to bring on.
