re Steering wobbles
(1886 - Sykes) -3-

6th Operation
Pivot lean set to Zero, and standard side steering tube and springs fitted, but springs at each end stiffened by steel washers 1/8" thick, ie. two at each end.

Result
Quite O.K. Return of steering not good.

7th Operation.
Pivot lean returned to .125, side steering tube unchanged.

Result.
No tendency to wobble, but it can with an effort be brought on.

Please note that Palmer tyres were used except where otherwise stated.

The only "H" series side steering tube we have cannot be fitted owing to set on same being too far forward.

You will be interested to note from the above series of operations that we have got the car into its present state by carrying out practically only three things, ie:-

1 - Setting the pivot lean to standard.
2 - Renewing the worn cross steering tube ball joints.
3 - Putting permanent friction into the system by washering up the springs in the side steering tube.

You will also note that we got no improvement after doing the first two items, and did not succeed in effecting what we suppose we may consider a cure (as we cannot think of anything else to do) until we had done the last (No.3).

This sheet must be filed with the correspondence to which it refers.
