Bentley Jack Pads.
--------------------

The jack pads fitted to the road springs are a better proposition than having to fit the jack under the axles. There is much to be desired to further making them easier to fit, and safer when jacking up.

In the first place, the jack has to be fitted on to the pad by hand. It has to be within half an inch of the correct height, otherwise it comes off the pad while screwing down the jack to the ground. To overcome these two faults, we submit that the bottom lip should protrude half an inch further out to act as a lead in fitting the jack on to the pad, also as a further safeguard in preventing the jack coming off whilst screwing it down to the road, before starting to lift.

Secondly, the jack should have a separate square boss cast on to the base so that it can be lifted into position by the handle. This should be a sloppy fit, to enable the handle to be withdrawn. The spherical should be more positive so that the location is not affected by the camber of the road, also to enable the jack to position itself more securely when the load is taken on the pad. This is required more for the rear pads than the front, which are more accessible.

The jack, at present, is too short and has not sufficient lift for the rear wheels. It is light and not cumbersome to operate.
