Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} 87005. Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}10/T9.6.31. 25-EX - Test of Car fitted with Modified Engine Suspension. The car is very good for retard boom in the neighbourhood of 50 m.p.h. in fact it would be difficult to pick out any marked boom on top gear at any speed. There is some boom on retard at 30 m.p.h. on third gear - there does not appear to be any noticeable signs of it on top gear at corresponding engine speed. It is very good for absence of torque reaction in the neighbourhood of 20 m.p.h. - there is however a very marked tremor of considerable amplitude about 10 m.p.h. full throttle. Judged by the movement of the front wings and head lamps, there is a considerable amount of frame jellying going on more or less all the time, this feature is particularly marked at 10 m.p.h. While this is not intended to be a report on any other feature than the engine suspension, I would like to mention that I thought there was an unusual amount of heat in the front compartment of the car, and that the car is very unstable at high speeds, and accompanied by severe "hitting back" on the steering wheel. I do not think that it is any worse than it has ever been, but it suffers badly by comparison with the Continental Touring Car. [Stamp Text: RECEIVED 07 NOP 1931] | ||
