PHANTOM II CONVERSION SCHEME.

BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} has promised to complete his detail drawings for this scheme on Wednesday. If we are going to use the parts exactly as they will be on production that is drop forgings, which will mean making producing dies, it will be approximately a month before the car will be ready for France. Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} recommends, and we agree, that we should send the car to France with fittings which have been machined to size. In doing this we ought to be able to get the car away about the end of next week.

On the very first Diamond engine mounting we made, we did not make use of the torque reaction dampers at the front, and it was in this condition that it was condemned for frame jellying. Later, when you tried 24-EX. torque reaction dampers were fitted at the front and it was considered an excellent all round car.

It was not until after we had exploited balance weights and different flywheel designs and proved them to be of very little use in overcoming our complaint, that we went back to the Diamond engine mounting.

We are still very anxious to see how a car with a Diamond engine mounting is going to behave over very rough roads. We do not think it will be satisfactory in the condition it was received back from W.W. That is, after they had adjusted the friction dampers, because of bonnet knocks.

We think, however, the thing to do with this job is to get it out to France as soon as possible and carry out some definite extended tests.
