Re Phantom lll. Gearboxes.

I am in receipt of your Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}5/R12.7.37. and note that the spigot bearing bush does not receive any direct lubrication below the propeller shaft speed equivalent to 30 m.p.h.

For your information, we arrange to turn the engines, with the wheels jacked up and in gear, periodically whilst chassis are standing at Coachbuilders. As soon as the Coachbuilder has completed the body we take the car on the road and this necessitates perhaps 5 to 10 minutes light running in his shop and then 6 to 8 miles on the road in restricted areas before getting on to a road where we can go fast. We then complete the test and return the car to the Coachbuilders and they rectify any body defects and run the car on the road again, nearly always in restricted areas, to see that the body work is O.K.

I should be interested to have your recommendations as to how we can cope with your requirements adequately.

J.L.E.
