New Armstrong Rear Shock Dampers fitted, incorporating:-

2 - Ex.26397 Brackets.
Weight of damper with support plates 12.1/4 lbs.

There was no hand control for the Armstrong rear dampers. Set at 80 lbs. there were complaints of harshness in England before the car left, but under continental conditions, they were too soft, allowing excessive float and jazzing of the rear axle under braking. The poundage was increased to 120 lbs. which improved matters a little, but any further increase made them impossibly harsh at low speeds. This was because these dampers had no leak. Improved dampers of this type with a hand control will be available for the next 15,000 miles Bentley, and the chief interest on these dampers was to obtain endurance running on the working parts and fixings.

The dampers remained free from knocks and rattles and there were no leaks or loss of oil whatsoever during the whole mileage. They were superior to R.R. dampers in this respect.

The simplicity of the attachment to the chassis and ease of removal for checking the poundage was a good feature, and showed no weaknesses.
